  • As desert control and new energy base construction accelerate, the Shapotou Pasture-PV-Storage Integrated Project (Phase I) in Zhongwei, Ningxia has been successfully connected to the grid. Jointly built by HY SOLAR and Zhongneng Construction Investment New Energy Co., Ltd. of Zhongwei City, the project is located on the southeastern edge of the Tengger Desert. It stands as a landmark project integrating green energy with ecological restoration, with HY SOLAR supplying 508MW of high-efficiency modules.

As a “Desert Control Demonstration Project” of Ningxia Autonomous Region, the Shapotou Pasture-PV-Storage project breaks away from traditional single-use land patterns and pioneers an ecological cycle of “power generation above, sand fixation below, and grass cultivation in between.” While the solar panels harvest sunlight into a continuous stream of clean energy, drought-resistant grasses beneath thrive by utilizing water vapor condensed from daily temperature differences, gradually forming a green barrier to tame drifting sand. At the same time, the grasses planted between panels contribute to livestock development, creating a virtuous cycle that combines energy production, ecological restoration, and local industry.

In this project, HY SOLAR provided 508MW of high-efficiency HT Series modules to support desert governance and green development in Shapotou. The region is a typical combination of “desert and solar-rich resources,” with an average annual rainfall of only 180 mm but more than 2,000 hours of peak sunshine. To adapt to this unique geography and climate, the project adopted HY SOLAR’s 210/66 bifacial modules, equipped with self-developed and self-produced N-type TOPCon cells. These modules deliver high power and conversion efficiency, with a bifaciality of up to 85%. Thanks to their superior performance and durability, they maintain stable power generation even under intense solar radiation, wide temperature swings, and arid conditions—ensuring efficient plant operation and supporting the region’s transition to clean energy.

Once fully grid-connected, the project is expected to generate 800 million kWh of electricity annually—equivalent to saving 300,000 tons of standard coal and reducing 730,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year. Beyond optimizing the regional energy structure, it also injects strong momentum into Zhongwei’s high-quality economic and social development. The innovative model of “power above, sand fixation below, and grass cultivation in between” not only improves Shapotou’s ecological environment but also provides a replicable and scalable blueprint for desertification control in Northwest China—vividly demonstrating the shift from “retreating before desert” to “harmonious coexistence with desert.”

The successful grid connection of the Shapotou project is another milestone in HY SOLAR’s deep engagement in Northwest China and contribution to the national energy transition. Looking ahead, HY SOLAR will continue to leverage its full value-chain integration and technological innovation advantages, working with partners to expand the green map across more desert regions. With solar power, we will drive ecological restoration and illuminate a more sustainable future with clean energy.
